Hands on ultrasound course in head & neck diseases

Fondazione IRCCS Policlinico S. Matteo, ICS Maugeri IRCCS Spa SB, IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Mondino & Trecchi Human Lab
Pavia e Cremona
June 16 and 30, September 15 and 28, 2022

This course aims to introduce head and neck ultrasounds and ultrasound-guided intervention skills to specialists and registrars in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. The number of US exams is increasing both in outpatient and surgical settings, and it can help head and neck surgeons to improve the diagnostic work-up and surgical results for patients with head and neck cancers. Moreover, the introduction of minimally invasive treatments (MIT), such as radiofrequency electrochemotherapy or the injection of sclerosant drugs in neck pathology, requires adequate US skills. The course is also relevant to other specialties which can benefit of the use of head and neck US, such as endocrinologists, pediatricians, radiologists, etc.
This practical course is designed with frontal lectures and interactive sessions; hands-on lab sessions will allow the participants to develop practical skills by directly training on volunteers or patients under faculty supervision. Furthermore, the participants will also practice ultrasound-guided interventions (including fine-needle aspiration biopsies, core needle biopsies, and minimally invasive treatments) on special-made fantoms and fresh-frozen cadavers.
